Our collaborators Raimel Sobrino-Duque, Begoña Moros, Joaquín Nicolás, and José Luis Fernández-Alemán from the University of Murcia, Juan Antonio Plasencia from the University of Computer Science in Havana, and our colleagues María Ángeles Moraga and Félix O. García have published an article entitled “Evaluating Through Business Processes Indicators: A Case Study” in the Journal of Software: Evolution and Process.
This paper proposes a method called Gaia, which facilitates the incorporation of sustainability indicators into each stage of the business process management cycle, representing an innovative proposal in the field of Green Business Process Management (Green BPM). The method considers five dimensions of sustainability (economic, social, environmental, institutional, and technological innovation) and allows for the integration of sustainability principles into the life cycle of business process management. In addition, it has been empirically validated through a case study conducted at a university. In this study, the sustainability index was calculated for each process and the overall sustainability coefficient of the organization was calculated. It should be noted that the study served as a basis for redesigning objectives, lines of action, and business processes in order to improve the levels of sustainability desired by the organization.
